Bathroom Ideas When You Have Children

Most children do not like taking baths. When they’re young, they want to be out running around and not stuck in the boring bathtub with mom or dad. However, since we can’t let our children run around covered in dirt, maybe contemporary bathroom designs can help make the whole process easier on everyone. And maybe contemporary bathroom remodeling can actually make bath time more fun too.

What children really want

To begin this contemporary bathroom remodeling project, you will want to look at your bathroom as your child might. Take the time to look around to see what things might not be safe and what things may not be inviting to them. Dull colors and hard-to-reach areas can make the bathroom less accessible to your children, which can lead to problems when it comes to proper use of the bathroom time. It can help to remember that children enjoy bright colors and items that are geared toward their imagination. What you may want to do is reserve one bathroom for your children so that you can include fanciful décor that will make them feel both special and loved when they need to take a bath or use the bathroom.

What you need to do

In order to create a child-friendly environment, contemporary bathroom designs can include fixtures that will grow as they do. For example, installing a combined shower and tub system can allow children to learn how to bathe themselves at any age. When they’re first starting out, you can use a soft, kid-friendly shower curtain and then install a hard glass door when they become older. This allows your design to be both safe and stylish. Try to create an overall theme with the design of the bathroom. If your child likes things like animals or certain cartoon characters, perhaps you can create a wall mural that contains these images or try to include safe toys that they can use while you are washing them. That way, they can focus on having fun rather than soap and shampoo.

Other fun ideas include:

  • The bathroom safari – complete with giraffe and lion images
  • The fishbowl theme
  • A fairytale theme

But there are many other contemporary bathroom remodeling designs that are kind-appropriate as well.

If you don’t have the room

If you are limited in the number of bathrooms that you have and don’t want to devote an entire bathroom to kid-friendly features, you can incorporate a compromise into your décor plans. Start by decorating as you normally would for your bathroom with whatever designs you find appropriate. To help your child feel welcome, try to include plenty of toys and fun towels that you can bring out for their bathroom time. You might also want to hang a child-friendly show curtain on the inside of your shower so that they see it when they’re in the shower, but others outside will not.

Safety is a big concern in contemporary bathroom remodeling for children, so be sure to install slip-resistant flooring inside both the shower and the normal floors. You will also want to have a bar on the inside of the bath so that they can balance themselves as necessary. Of course, a rubber ducky for moral support never hurts either.
